Dirty Dancin

OKAY... So can someone please tell me where having a slightly nonconforming rear wing is far more serious than that of a driver allowing his friend to take his NCTS truck out for a few laps during testing only to wreck it?? Johnny Benson was fined only $10,000 and docked a mere 50 points while his crew chief was suspended for two, yes two races!! There is some dirty dancin in that so called NASCAR rule book!!

I have to agree that this penalty does not make a lot of sense. It seems pretty stiff especially for something that seems like an honest mistake.

And with JR and JR backgrounds, they don't cheat.

Maybe under the appeal they can get a reduced sentence, but I think NASCAR is trying to send a message NOT to mess with the COT........at JR's expense.

They always seem to be inconsistant with their penalties and I don't get it.

NASCAR did say that they would hammer the first team that messed with the COT, and they kept there word.

It does seem like a pretty harsh penalty for a pretty minor offense. Had somebody else been the first offender, Jr probably wouldn't have been hit so hard.

They are the equivalent of the gestapo! I don't think we will ever be able to figure them out. They are in their own little world.

Gestapo Cheyenne?

Jeesh, get a grip!

Anyway, you asked you shall receive: First your question,

So can someone please tell me where having a slightly nonconforming rear wing is far more serious than that of a driver allowing his friend to take his NCTS truck out for a few laps during testing only to wreck it??

But it's the wrong question. The question should read, why didn't the Benson penalty result in a loss of more points. (100 points?)

Benson Jr. isn't a wet-behind-the-ears rookie. As a NASCAR vet he, and his crew chief, knew full well allowing an unlicensed driver behind the wheel is a strict and long-standing no-no.

They, and NASCAR, are damn lucky no injuries resulted. If they had everyone involved would be open to massive lawsuits.

And I fully expect the crew chief, if not Benson also, to be shown the door by Bill Davis to find work elsewhere.

As for Jr's "slightly nonconforming rear wing" well... too bad. DEI were in possession of both a March memo and the rulebook that explicitly states the penalties involved with this infraction.

They filed the prerequisite appeal that will be summarily tossed out the window and all will move on.

Yeah I think that is stupid. I think Nascar is losing their minds!!!!!

And received I have... indeed the Benson case is severe and downright stupidity. And I too expect more out of this from BDR, but, and nothing against Greg Biffle, did Greg or did he not have the first infraction during the first race of the COT? NASCAR pretty much excused it because it was an "early mistake" not defined as cheating as I'm sure it wasn't with the recent "mistake" on Jr.'s wing. Rules are rules and so should be the consequences, that is, consistent!! And that was my question..which I know is rhetorical because the answer is moot. Albeit, we all have a theory and opinions, we are powerless over the NASCAR Gods.
